Fashion critics of Duchess
Catherine have lampooned her for playing it ‘too safe’ in her fashion choices.
However, high praise for her impact on the fashion industry has come from none other then the
style guru, Gok Wan.

Gok, believes the former Kate
Middleton and current, Duchess of Cambridge “looks great” in whatever she
wears. The style icon unabashedly says he is a huge fan of Kate Middleton,
particularly since she endorses and promotes high street fashion.
Speaking to Gill Harvey of stv.tv
during a recent visit to Glasgow,
Gok says: “I think she looks great, she looks fine. She has to be conservative.
I think she’s brilliant for wearing the high street as well.”
Taking up for the Duchess, Gok says many people pull-up Kate for looking ‘too conservative.’ However, if the Duchess goes attired in a tracksuit while on a visit to an orphanage, then only, “we’d all have something to say about it,” opines Gok.

Ever since the former Kate Middleton’s wedlock to the future heir to the British throne, Prince William in April 2011, Catherine has become a kind of fashion icon followed by zillions of fans from world over.
In fact, the hullabaloo began during her engagement announcement itself when she
wore the blue Issa dress (on the left). It was such a massive hit, that replicas of the dress
swarmed the high street as fans jostled to snag it before stocks ran out.

That was the start of the craze for Kate Middleton, after which she has made waves
in the industry through her fashion choices. To give an example when the tall
30-year-old brunette wore a Zara dress (costing £69.99 from high-street), to a
recent charity concert, the outfits were sold out online within one hour.
This does not mean the Duchess of
Cambridge cannot carry off designer brands. In fact she is equally adept at it.
Recently Kate came in for high praise for her selection of a glamorous teal
Jenny Packham gown accessorized with stylish Jimmy Choo sandals for an official
engagement to mark the Olympics.

The moot point is what makes Kate Middleton have such a tremendous impact on
the general public’s own choice of fashion. Why is she looked up to by the
common Brit as also people of the world?
Gok believes that is so since she is so
visible and high profile. Gok Wan says: “I think everybody in the public eye
has a responsibility for people to look at them and think ‘actually I quite
like your style’.
Further the style icon goes on to say “Obviously there was a massive wedding, it’s the first time we’ve had a royal wedding in a long time, plus we know William is going to be our King at some point, therefore Kate will be our Queen, so they are bound to be noticed for what they’re wearing.”
