With the much awaited first wedding anniversary
of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
just around the corner, there is good news in the offing for doll collectors and
British royal family admirers alike.
Mattel Inc, the world renowned US manufacturers
of Barbie dolls, have unveiled a special two-doll set to mark the first year
anniversary of Prince William and Kate’s wedding that took place last year on
29th April at Westminster Abbey.

The exquisite figures form part of a limited
collection by Mattel and have already been sold out in America. The
two dolls are wearing costumes based on the royal couple’s wedding outfit.
Similar to the Irish Guards outfit sported by Prince
William and Kate’s Sarah Burton designed gown. The dolls are encased inside a
box set and retails at around £100. According to Mattel the dolls are more of a
collector’s memorabilia rather than a toy.

Meanwhile in Britain,
a commemorative Barbie version of the royal couple has already hit the shelves
of the Hamleys toy store in London.
The head buyer at Hamleys, Laura Olver believes the upcoming event will
generate a lot of interest for the commemorative dolls.
Olver disclosed "Straight after the
engagement another manufacturer brought out a Catherine doll in the blue
engagement dress which took us by surprise. We sold about 30 times more than we
originally forecast we would sell of that doll."
Such has been the interest in Kate’s eye-catching
engagement outfit that it was aped and spawned around. In-fact a number of high
street shops that the Duchess of Cambridge visited have found to their delight,
sales booming.
In fact, there is no sign of Catherine’s
popularity abating opines retail analyst, Isabel Cavell, going on to add "She
(Kate) looks good in what she wears and shoppers want to buy in to that."
