Bookies have reported a heavy
surge in betting on British royals, Kate
Middleton and Prince William having a baby in 2013, particularly so,
after the young couple have been seen under the public glare during the two
weeks of Olympics at London this year.
Following the massive high-stakes
bets this week on Duchess Kate having a baby next year; Paddy Power reported
that it has slashed its odds on Thursday, Aug 09, 2012. The bookmakers chipped
off their odds from 4/5 to 1/4 after many three-figure bets, and a bet of
£1,000, were placed on Kate and Wills having their first baby in 2013.
“Our Royal Baby betting had gone
relatively quiet over the past couple of months but this week has exploded back
into action,” informed a representative for Paddy Power. The spokesman went on
to add: “When punters are willing to place large bets at these odds it’s
usually based on more than speculation. Let’s hope so!”
The surge in betting is
understood to be due to Kate and Wills being in the limelight during the
Olympic Games. With photographs of the couple splashed daily in websites as
also in newspapers, as also some rare displays of public hugging, the punters
seem to be cashing in on the couple’s romance in the couple of weeks.
Moreover, Prince William is
currently on a well deserved holiday from his tedious RAF duties. Also the Duke
jointly with Kate Middleton is carrying out responsibilities as Team GB
ambassadors during the London Olympics. They seem to be enjoying each others
company and having the time of their lives at the games.
Along-with trimming the odds, the
bookies are also placing odds of 50/1 that Kate and Wills will be having twins
and 500/1 they will be having triplets. Meanwhile, the preferred names for Kate
and Wills first child are Frances
at 7-1 and John, Victoria and Mary at 8-1. The name of Prince
William’s mother - Diana is also well-liked with punters who are offering odds
of 9-1.
