One quality of the Duchess of
Cambridge that has endeared her to the Queen of England is her pragmatic
attitude towards her clothes and willingness to repeat the same dress twice,
opined a royal historian.

The fashion world is abuzz with
how Kate Middleton prefers to reuse her old clothes even during special occasions.
She has been widely photographed on many occasions wearing the same outfit more
than once both for public and private engagements.
In an article to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, 77-year-old Sir Roy Strong, a seasoned writer has written of the monarch’s fondness for the Duchess and approval of her wardrobe choice. The Queen herself has never been an extravagant person, who has been affectionately called by Roy as a “make-do-and-mend Queen.”
In a newspaper article he wrote
for this weekend, Roy said the Queen grew up during
austere war times in Britain.
Naturally her budding years were influenced by growing up in the shadow of the
Second World War and she had to make sacrifices along with her Britain.
Roy said: “That’s something that’s stayed
with the Queen all her life, and I think that’s partly why she likes Kate,
who’s not afraid to wear the same dress twice.” Due to her own upbringing, it
is but natural that the Queen approves of Duchess Kate’s attitude towards
wasteful spending and setting an example with her prudent choice of outfits.
The fashion repeat was highlighted when Duchess Kate attended the yacht party for Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall, donning a cream coat which she had worn for an event in 2006. Likewise, for her engagement photographs she had worn a white dress which she repeated on her 9-day-tour of Canada, something that has endeared the Duchess to the masses.
One of Duchess Kate’s favorite
outfits is a brocade coat by Jane Throughton which she had worn to a wedding in
London, on
August 2009. She was latter spotted wearing the same coat two years later, at a
celebration for the Duke of Edinburgh - Prince Philip’s 90th birthday on June
2011, which she paired with a Zara dress and L. K. Bennett shoes.

And as if to prove the point,
just yesterday, Duchess Kate wore the long sleeved soft baby pink pleated Emilia
Wickstead dress with Jane Corbett hat to the Buckingham Palace
garden party to kick start the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. This is a recycled
version of the £1,200 dress she had worn just eleven days back dress to a lunch
at Windsor Castle for World Sovereigns.
Fashion insiders have remarked that
Duchess Kate has even re-worn dresses and coats that goes back to 2006. The
lady’s pragmatic tendency can be gauged by the fact that last year, she
reportedly even politely refused to employ a personal dresser, stating it was a
waste of money.

No doubt, therefore, celebrity
stylist Rachel Zoe has remarked: “I think that just makes her so much more
human and approachable. Like, I just went into my closet and grabbed this pair
of skinny jeans, little jacket and left. And I think that’s great…”

the Queen and senior members of the Royal family on the Royal Barge for the
Diamond Jubilee celebrations this weekend.
