Prince William talks of Diana grief on wedding day - Struggled not to cry

The Duke of Cambridge opened his heart out to reveal how he had to control himself not to cry thinking about his late mother, during his wedding with Kate Middleton in April 2011.

Prince William spoke emotionally about missing his late mom, in the course of an interview to Katie Couric for a US TV Queen’s Diamond Jubilee special.

Possibly for the first time, the highly private Wills, 29, talked about his grief that Diana was not there with them on their important day nor be able to meet his wife Catherine in person.

At the same time the Duke believed that had his mother been alive she would have been very happy at the wedding and proud of them.

Prince William also disclosed to Katie Curic about his mental dilemma prior to the wedding:  “I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was mentally prepared ... I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on.”

As anyone with a little knowledge of astrology knows, Cancerian’s are very attached to their mothers and in anything they do, their mother is paramount. So it is but natural for Cancerian Wills to remember his mom on his wedding day.

“It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve ... I’ve thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”

Further, the emotional person that he is, Wills said: “I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of us both for the day. I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”

It may be recalled that early last year Wills, much against fears of jinx expressed all around, boldly decided to present Kate Middleton with his late mother’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring.  The symbolism of a doting son’s gesture in this cannot be lost.

William told Tom Bradby of ITN then: “It is very special to me …. It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together. This is my way of keeping her close to it all.” Guess those words said it loud and clear what was deep in Prince William’s heart.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry who also gave an interview to Katie Curie said that he felt his mom Diana was them with at the Westminster Abbey wedding in spirit. In his typical breezy style, the articulate Harry said: “She would have loved to have been there. I think she had the best seat in the house, probably.”
