Prince William talks of Diana grief on wedding day - Struggled not to cry

The Duke of Cambridge opened his heart out to reveal how he had to control himself not to cry thinking about his late mother, during his wedding with Kate Middleton in April 2011.

Prince William spoke emotionally about missing his late mom, in the course of an interview to Katie Couric for a US TV Queen’s Diamond Jubilee special.

Possibly for the first time, the highly private Wills, 29, talked about his grief that Diana was not there with them on their important day nor be able to meet his wife Catherine in person.

At the same time the Duke believed that had his mother been alive she would have been very happy at the wedding and proud of them.

Prince William also disclosed to Katie Curic about his mental dilemma prior to the wedding:  “I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was mentally prepared ... I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on.”

As anyone with a little knowledge of astrology knows, Cancerian’s are very attached to their mothers and in anything they do, their mother is paramount. So it is but natural for Cancerian Wills to remember his mom on his wedding day.

“It’s the one time since she’s died, where I’ve ... I’ve thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here, and just how sad really for her, more than anything, not being able to see it.”

Further, the emotional person that he is, Wills said: “I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of us both for the day. I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.”

It may be recalled that early last year Wills, much against fears of jinx expressed all around, boldly decided to present Kate Middleton with his late mother’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring.  The symbolism of a doting son’s gesture in this cannot be lost.

William told Tom Bradby of ITN then: “It is very special to me …. It was my way to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together. This is my way of keeping her close to it all.” Guess those words said it loud and clear what was deep in Prince William’s heart.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry who also gave an interview to Katie Curie said that he felt his mom Diana was them with at the Westminster Abbey wedding in spirit. In his typical breezy style, the articulate Harry said: “She would have loved to have been there. I think she had the best seat in the house, probably.”

Prince William tells Katie Couric that he is “very keen to have a family”

Here’s one piece of news, right out of the horse’s mouth. Both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are eagerly looking forward to having their own offspring, barely one year after their grand nuptials in April 2011. What Prince William when talking did not mention was when exactly the world will get to hear the patter of tiny feet in the Buckingham Palace corridors.

Speaking to Katie Couric in an interview with ABC News, the 29-year-old Duke frankly declared: “I’m just very keen to have a family and both Catherine and I, you know, are looking forward to having a family in the future.” When prompted by Couric if he had any additional information to share, the highly private Prince William responded with a laugh, “You won’t get anything out of me. (I am) tight lipped.” Now as everyone knows is typical of the secretive Cancerian Prince.

The interview by Katie Couric is part of a series of rare interviews conducted with the royal family members including Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrews to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The interview will be broadcast on Tuesday night in an ABC News special, The Jubilee Queen With Katie Couric.

Right after Prince William and Catherine’s wedding, speculation has been rife on whether Kate Middleton is pregnant. Meanwhile, as per the latest rule of succession agreed to by the heads of 16 Commonwealth nations, irrespective of the gender of their child, Will and Kate’s first-born can ascend the throne in future. Of course, the British Parliament has still to amend existing law to make the succession change official.

In this context British PM David Cameron, told the press last year “Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen.” Of course all these discussions about his future child, is puzzling Prince William who when asked about constant talk over whether Kate is pregnant, said: “It is quite strange reading about it, but I try not to let it bother me.”

But what does bother the Duke of Cambridge is the difficult choice he has to make by the end of this year on whether to continue his stint with the Royal Air Force, where he is a flight lieutenant or carry on with his royal duties on a full time basis.

According to Prince William, he is still trying to decide. “It’s a really difficult one because I really enjoy my time in the Air Force. And I’d love to continue it. But the pressures of my other life are building. And fighting them off or balancing the two of them has proven quite difficult,” he added.

Meanwhile younger brother, Prince Harry naturally after seeing his elder brother happily married must be surely yearning for a mate like Kate Middleton, which would be tough act to follow. He is still trying to figure out his own life, he said.

Echoing Prince William, the 27-year-old Prince Harry too shared with Katie Couric his own yearning for a family. “I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young. And so…I’m waiting to find the right person, someone who’s willing to take on the job,” he opened out honestly.
